To Rodriguez's credit, the teaser does indeed sell the cool vibe of the final From Dusk Till Dawn, and Pilato, albeit only briefly shown, comes off as one dangerous customer. Pilato, while seeing his biggest success with Captain Rhodes, also appeared in a different bit role in Dawn of the Dead, and would later show up in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, and in the Wes Craven-produced Wishmaster. He made the teaser on the cheap, utilizing favors from people, and casting Joe Pilato as Seth Gecko.
Years before that though, in 1988, Rodriguez wrote a 24-page treatment for From Dusk Till Dawn, which had the initial "crime movie turned horror" premise in place from the start. By 1991, Rodriguez decided to make a teaser short for From Dusk Till Dawn, designed to drum up interest from potential backers. Robert Rodriguez would finally get his first feature made in 1993, El Mariachi, which immediately got the notice of Hollywood, leading to 1995 studio-backed follow-up Desperado. Years before From Dusk Till Dawn got made, Rodriguez shot a teaser that was intended to get the projected funded with writing from Quentin Tarantino, and that teaser starred Joe Pilato as Seth, who horror fans will know best as Day of the Dead's scene-stealing villain Captain Rhodes. However, while it's hard to imagine anyone but Clooney as Seth, he wasn't the original actor cast in the role. He's just as good when playing a robber on the run from the law as he is once things go sideways and vampires show up. Seth exudes cool, and Clooney is effortlessly good in the role.
